Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about EFGAS certification and e-foiling

EFGAS (E-Foil Global Accreditation System) certification is an internationally recognized credential that verifies you have received proper training in e-foil operation, safety procedures, and navigation rules. It's required by many rental operators, marinas, and insurance providers as proof of competency.

Having EFGAS certification demonstrates that you understand how to operate an e-foil safely and responsibly, which helps prevent accidents and protects marine environments.

To become EFGAS certified, you'll need to:

  1. Find an EFGAS-certified training center near you
  2. Complete the required training course (typically 5-10 hours)
  3. Pass both the theoretical and practical assessments
  4. Receive your EFGAS certification card and digital license

No prior experience is necessary for beginner courses, but basic swimming ability is required.

EFGAS certifications are valid for 3 years from the date of issue. To renew your certification, you'll need to complete a refresher course and pass the assessment. This ensures all certified riders maintain current knowledge of safety standards and best practices.

You'll receive a reminder email 60 days before your certification expires.

EFGAS requires the following safety equipment when e-foiling:

  • Personal flotation device (PFD) or impact vest
  • Helmet (highly recommended, especially for beginners)
  • Wetsuit or appropriate thermal protection for water temperature
  • Foot protection (reef shoes or booties in appropriate conditions)
Important Safety Notice: Do not use a leash connecting you to the board as it can be dangerous. Leashes can cause entanglement and injury while e-foiling.

Additional safety gear may be required depending on local regulations and conditions.

You can verify an EFGAS certification by using our online verification tool. You'll need the license number (format: EFGAS-123456) and the rider's last name.

The verification will show you:

  • If the certification is active, expired, or revoked
  • The certification issue and expiration dates
  • The name of the issuing school
  • The certification level

Yes, EFGAS certification is recognized by e-foil rental operators, marinas, and authorities in over 50 countries worldwide. Our certification meets or exceeds the safety standards set by international maritime and watersports organizations.

However, we always recommend checking local regulations in the area where you plan to ride, as requirements can vary by location. Some regions may have additional requirements or may not yet recognize e-foil-specific certifications.

If you're traveling, it's a good idea to carry both your digital EFGAS license and a printed copy of your certification.

EFGAS has the following age requirements for certification:

  • Ages 12-15: Can obtain certification but must be accompanied by a certified adult when e-foiling
  • Ages 16+: Can obtain full independent certification
  • No minimum age for introductory lessons, but participants must be able to swim and follow instructions

These age requirements may be adjusted based on local regulations or at the discretion of the certified training center. Parental consent is required for all participants under 18 years of age.

Remember that e-foiling requires a certain level of physical ability and maturity to operate safely.
